To the Jews, it has always been shame and confusion as they lost the very essence for which they were raised as a nation for God. Their calling to become a nation is not for their sake, but that God might through them speak to the world, that the nations and peoples might know Him as a God of Salvation and to reveal Himself in this wise.
They became unnecessarily religious, without knowing the ways and the thoughts of God; hence they always get the knock on the head. They wanted a king to establish a kingdom for themselves, but God’s Messiah is for a nation for God on earth which shall be for ever under God and His Christ.
This Christ is not according to man’s corrupt manipulations of establishing kingdoms and nations that, do not execute God’s agenda, but according to the divine purpose which has been programmed into creation and that will manifest at the appointed time. It is a kingdom that is to be established in righteousness and not in the brutish and violent ways of men.
“Then Pilate entered into the judgement hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the king of the Jews?
Jesus answered him, sayest thou this things of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?
Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?
Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered; Thou sayest that I am a king.
To this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.” Jn18: 33-37.
When eventually Pilate wrote the title ‘JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS’
The chief Priest implored Pilate not to write ‘THE KING OF THE JEWS’ but that he said, I am king of the Jews.
“Pilate answered, what I have written I have written.”Jn19:22
Pilate though not a Jew, discerned something unique in Jesus. He took time to question Jesus as to the fact of Him being a king. The creek mythology which has stronghold on the world religion and philosophy concerning the existence of gods and deities, that have father, son, mother, queen and kings status could have made Pilate to be careful in his judgement so as not to offend the gods, hence he played it safe by pushing the final decision to the Jews.
“When the Chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out saying, crucify him, crucify him, Pilate saith unto
them, take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.
The Jews answered him, we have a law, and by our law he ought to die, because he made himself the Son of God.
When Pilate therefore heard that saying, he was the more afraid:
And went again into judgement hall, and saith unto Jesus, Whence art thou? But Jesus gave him no answer.
Then saith Pilate unto him, speakest thou unto me? Knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?
Jesus answered, thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above:
Therefore he that delivered me unto thee hath the greater sin.
And from thenceforth Pilate sought to release him: but the Jews cried out, saying, if thou let this man go, thou art not Ceasar’s friend: Whosoever maketh himself a king speaketh against Ceasar.” Jn19:6-12.
The Jews did not realise that they were betraying He that they hoped for. They knew not God as a spirit that must be worshipped in spirit and in truth. They could not discern that which is of the spirit, but in their quest for a worldly glory, they became blind to the truth.
Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is that they might be saved.
For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge.
For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.”Rom.10:1-4
This is in fulfilment of the prophecy on Isaiah,
“And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.”Is.11:10
While in Samaria, Ephesus, Colosse, Corinth, Rome, Galatia, Philippi, Athens and Macedonia, the gentiles received the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ and were baptised with the Holy Spirit, the elders and the Chief Priest were doing all in their power to stop the spread of the word.
“And as they spake unto the people, the priests and the captain of the temple, and the Sad-du-cees, came upon them.
Being grieved that they taught the people, and preached through Jesus the resurrection from the dead.
And they laid hands on them, and put them in hold unto the next day: for it was now eventide.
Howbeit many of them which heard the word believed; and the number of the men was about five thousand.”Acts.4:1-4
